Joint statement seeking for concrete support to researchers in Iran persecuted for their research activity

On the 21st of February, the European Council of Doctoral Candidates and Junior Researchers (Eurodoc), International Consortium of Research Staff Associations (ICoRSA), Marie Curie Alumni Association (MCAA) and Young Academy of Europe (YAE) released a joint statement regarding the ongoing protests in Iran since September 2022 seeking for concrete support to researchers persecuted for their research activity, and for the international research community to actively voice their support for the protesters in Iran.

In the statement, organisations expressed their deep concern for the situation in Iran, as it has become increasingly difficult for researchers to pursue their studies and research without fear of persecution. They condemn the criminalisation of research and call for concrete support to researchers in Iran who are being persecuted for their research activity by any authoritarian regime.

They also express their strong support for the fight for freedom and basic human rights and urge the international community to take action to protect those who are at risk.
