ICoRSA, the International Consortium of Research Staff Associations, is gearing up for its highly anticipated Annual General Meeting (AGM), to be held on January 12 and 13, 2024, at the esteemed Instituto Superior Técnico in Lisbon, Portugal.
Co-organized by ANICT and NInTec, this event promises to brings together board members, member organizations, and international experts to deliberate on the future of research careers and address the pressing issue of precarity.
The 2024 AGM holds particular significance as it offers a platform for influential decisions to be made regarding ICoRSA’s future Board and Strategic Plan for 2025. With an emphasis on driving positive change in research, attendees will engage in discussions about researchers’ career frameworks and how to mitigate the challenges of precarity.
The event’s agenda is packed with insightful sessions designed to empower participants with knowledge and strategies. The first day kicks off with morning sessions exclusively for members, which include an overview of ICoRSA’s main activities in 2023, the approval of last year’s minutes, a presentation of financial accounts, and the crucial Board election.
In the afternoon, the focus turns to the issue of research precarity in Europe, with informative presentations from esteemed speakers. The OECD report, “Promoting diverse Career Pathways for Doctoral and Postdoctoral Researchers,” will be explored, as well as the findings of the Innovation and Research Observatory by the European Commission. Participants will also delve into the OECD report “Reducing the Precarity of Academic Research Careers in Ireland,” led by Cláudia Sarrico, Policy analyst, and Project Manager at OECD (to be confirmed).
Day one closes with a riveting roundtable discussion on the ongoing reforms to address precarity in Portugal, featuring experts from Portugal, Spain, and Germany who will share insights into Tenure Programmes and best institutional practices.
The second day continues the momentum with members of ICoRSA presenting their main activities, with a special emphasis on initiatives addressing research precarity in their respective countries.
This AGM contributes in shaping the future of research careers and fostering an environment of stability and growth for researchers.
