Discussions are underway on the next European Framework Programme for Research and Innovation (FP10), which includes a proposal for a major new funding mechanism—the European Competitiveness Fund—that aims to merge existing programmes.
In response, Initiative for Science in Europe launched an open letter inviting all scientists to speak up for and advocate for a strong, well-funded FP10 that safeguards the future of European research programmes as the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) and theEuropean Research Council (ERC)
The letter calls for:
- A fully funded and autonomous FP10.
- Sustained funding of €220 billion to ensure the continuity of major programmes such as the ERC, MSCA and long-term investment in research careers.
- Continuity of basic collaborative research.
