ICoRSA Contributes Public Consultation of European Commission on The Future on EU’s Next Long-term Budget (MFF)

ICoRSA submmited its contributions to the next long-term budget Multiannual Financial Framework, that covers EU funds supporting the single market and cooperation between national authorities, as the future european programme for Research and Innovation,FP10. The consultation was open to all type of organizations and citizens.

ICoRSA calls for a standalone budget for FP10 under the next EU Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF), emphasizing that this is essential to preserve the integrity of the European Research Area (ERA) as defined in Article 179(1) TFEU. A dedicated Framework Programme would ensure focused governance, strategic priority-setting, and effective coordination. The elements that may be weakened if research funding is absorbed into a broader Competitiveness Fund.

Moreover, ICoRSA calls for FP10 to ensure effective and sustainable EU research by:

  • Sustaining investment in the European Research Area (ERA).
  • Supporting international collaboration, especially in underrepresented regions.
  • Addressing research career precarity through fair and stable funding.
  • Reducing administrative burden and enabling access to resources for all institutions.
  • Ensuring dedicated funding for Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH).
  • Upholding scientific freedom and researcher autonomy.
  • Advancing gender equality through targeted funding.
  • Aligning research and higher education policies to strengthen talent and institutions.
  • Increasing and safeguarding funding for ERC and MSCA, as recommended by Eurodoc.
