The Women20 Summit 2024 was held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 30 September to 2 October 2024 and was a very constructive meeting as Women20 invited the G20 leaders with its Communiqué to:

  • Implement actions to achieve women’s economic empowerment and gender equality commitments agreed in the last nine G20 leaders’ declarations
  • Implement the 2014 Brisbane commitment (25×25) to reduce the female labor force participation gap by 25% by 2025. According to the 2024 ILO/OECD report, only half of G20 members will meet the target of Brisbane
  • Implement further agreed commitments to advance women’s equality, including: (a) halving the digital gender gap by 2030, (b) increasing women’s participation in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), ( c) implement the Women Entrepreneurs (WE) Financial Code, (d) end violence against women and (e) invest in social protection, infrastructure and support services.

In fact, the PRIORITY AREAS OF WOMEN20 2024 in which to identify the actions recommended to the G20 Leaders to be included in the G20 Final Declaration are five as follows:.

  1. WOMEN ENTREPRENEURSHIP: ACCESS TO FINANCING, CAPITAL AND MARKETS
  1. CARE ECONOMY –

Unpaid care, based on available time use data, has been estimated by the ILO to be 9% of global GDP, or approximately $11 trillion USD.

  1. WOMEN IN STEM SCIENCES
  1. WOMEN AND CLIMATE JUSTICE
  1. END VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND GIRLS

In particular, Gianna Avellis, Lucia Martinelli and Sveva Avveduto worked in the working groups relating to the two thematic areas WOMEN IN STEM SCIENCES and CLIMATE JUSTICE.
